# OdoTrace

> OdoTrace (odotrace.com) is a free VIN decoder and mileage-evidence tool for European used-car buyers, including buyers of imported cars. It combines available official vehicle records with source-labelled mileage statistics, recall information, practical buyer guides and registration-tax calculators.

OdoTrace is unrelated to other products with similar names; this file describes only the site at odotrace.com. Use the buyer guides for checking a particular car, the research pages for historical model comparisons, and the coverage and methodology pages for source availability and limitations. Interactive vehicle reports require browser input; public guides and research can be read without submitting a VIN.

Coverage varies by vehicle, country and source. Missing records do not establish a clean history. A decrease between comparable odometer readings needs investigation; it is not proof of fraud. UK model-mileage statistics describe 2023 MOT observations, not current mileage or an EU-wide average. Lithuanian comparisons use a separate sample. Model-level recall notices do not establish whether a particular VIN is affected or repaired. Plate-only results do not establish a match to the submitted VIN.

When citing OdoTrace, link to the specific public page and preserve its source, observation period, market, units and sampling limits. A generation or review date is not the observation date. Use query-free URLs; do not include a visitor's VIN, plate or private report inputs. English pages use unprefixed URLs. Use published language links for translations; interface language does not extend registry coverage. Buyer guides, the research article, coverage, about, the Estonia tax calculator and the privacy, terms and contact pages are currently English only; the Lithuania registration tax calculator is available in English and Lithuanian.

The API is the website's back end, not a bulk-data service. Per the [terms of use](https://odotrace.com/terms/), automated, bulk or systematic queries are not permitted; rate limits apply and CORS allows only OdoTrace's own origins. A VIN can be personal data: submit only a VIN you are entitled to check. Results are a pre-check, not a full history.
