For a car registered in Lithuania, use two official lookups: Regitra's vehicle data search for registration details, and the technical-inspection (TA) history for dated odometer readings. Ask the seller for the registration certificate before you start; one of the two services needs its number.
Do this now
- Read the VIN on the car and ask the seller for the Lithuanian plate and the registration certificate number.
- Enter the VIN or plate in Regitra's vehicle data search and compare the registration details with the car and its papers.
- Enter the plate and registration certificate number in the technical-inspection history service and write down each record's date and odometer reading.
- Compare those readings with service invoices and the dashboard, and mark gaps and any period the car was registered abroad.
- Enter the VIN in the OdoTrace vehicle check for the decode and model recall context, and compare the mileage with the Lithuanian fleet band on the car's model-year page, if one is published, such as the Volkswagen Passat 2010 page.
The inspection history shows readings only where an inspection was recorded, and OdoTrace's Lithuanian figures describe the fleet rather than this car.
Regitra: the vehicle data search
Regitra's public vehicle data search takes a VIN or a Lithuanian plate and returns registration information. It is not a mileage source. The portal may ask you to complete its human-verification step yourself, and it has its own instructions for the entry form. Match the VIN and plate on the registration certificate with the car before relying on what comes back.
Technical-inspection (TA) history: dated odometer readings
The Lithuanian technical inspection association, TRANSEKSTA, runs an e-service for a vehicle's TA history. Its service description says it shows the validity of the technical inspection, the defects found during inspections, and the odometer reading. It needs the vehicle's state registration number and the registration certificate number, so a buyer usually has to ask the seller for the certificate number. Open the service and follow its own instructions. OdoTrace's source review lists the user lookup as free of charge.
The description also says the service gives no inspection history for a newly registered vehicle that has not had its first technical inspection. For an older car, note each record's date and odometer reading, confirm the unit shown, and compare consecutive readings. A lower later number needs an original document or an explanation, not an accusation: an entry error or an instrument replacement can look the same.
Hypothetical example, not a vehicle result: one inspection record shows 182,000 and a later record shows 171,000. First check the plate and certificate number you entered, the unit and the dates. Then ask the seller for the inspection documents and for any record of a replaced instrument cluster, and use the mileage-history checklist to decide what the evidence supports.
What OdoTrace has for Lithuania
OdoTrace does not look up Lithuanian registers by VIN, so an OdoTrace report contains no Lithuanian history for your car. Its Lithuanian data is aggregate. It comes from TRANSEKSTA's open technical-inspection data (data.gov.lt dataset 2721, CC BY 4.0), generated 12 July 2026, with no VINs or personal data:
- Fleet mileage bands. For a make, model and year, the 10th, median and 90th percentile of each vehicle's latest inspection reading, in kilometres. A band is published only where at least 1,000 vehicles are in the group, and it is never combined with the UK band shown beside it.
- Fleet rollback share. Among cars of a model with two or more inspection readings, the share where a later reading falls below an earlier one at some point, shown next to the share with a drop of more than 5,000 km. Across 70,679 Lithuanian Volkswagen Passat cars, for example, 2.5% show a drop of more than 5,000 km and 40.6% show a decrease of any size. Inspection dates are only week-precise and data entry adds noise, so the raw share is not a share of tampered cars; it is context for the model, never a verdict on one car.
- First-inspection fail rate per model and year, from the same data, where the sample supports it.
The methodology page gives the definitions.
Registering a car in Lithuania
If you are buying a car already in Lithuania or bringing one in, OdoTrace's Lithuania registration tax calculator estimates the CO2-based registration charge from the emissions method and fuel combination on the vehicle documents. It is also available in Lithuanian. Read the calculator's own rules, document requirements and assumptions before relying on the result.
If the car came from abroad
A Lithuanian record covers inspections in Lithuania. For the earlier country, use that country's register: see the UK, Dutch, Czech and US-import guides, and the printable checklist for the viewing.
