For a Czech used car, start with its VIN and dated inspection readings. Match the 17-character VIN on the vehicle to its registration documents before checking it.
Do this now
- Compare the 17-character VIN on the car with its registration documents.
- Enter the VIN in the Ministry of Transport's Kontrola tachometru portal, complete its verification step, and write down each displayed date and odometer value.
- Compare those readings with the seller's inspection certificates, service invoices and the current dashboard reading.
- Enter the same VIN in the free vehicle check and read its STK source status and loaded date range.
- Mark missing years and any period the car was registered abroad, and ask for the previous country's records.
A rising series of dated readings supports only those dates; it does not verify every year of use.
Registry details help identify the car; they do not provide a complete mileage history.
Check the ministry's inspection readings
- Enter the VIN in the Czech Ministry of Transport's Kontrola tachometru portal and complete its verification step.
- Write down each displayed date and odometer value. Compare them with the seller's inspection certificates, service invoices and current dashboard reading.
- Mark missing years and any time the car was registered abroad; ask for records from the previous country too.
The ministry says these are values observed at technical or emissions inspections, which may differ from the vehicle's true current total distance.
Read the OdoTrace result within its loaded dates
Enter the same VIN in the free vehicle check. OdoTrace can show Czech registry facts and selected STK readings from locally loaded official files. In the report, check the STK source status, the earliest and latest loaded file dates, and the number of files. A span between two dates is not proof that every intervening day was loaded; the report also flags an incomplete span or stale file validation. This check does not query the ministry portal live.
Unit warning for every comparison: the imported STK file supplies a raw odometer number but no unit. OdoTrace labels its kilometre assumption and uses it when comparing readings. If the car or an earlier record uses miles, confirm the unit in original documents before treating a change as a decrease.
Example: investigate a lower number
Hypothetical example, not a vehicle result: a seller's STK certificate dated 2022 shows 92,000 and a later certificate dated 2024 shows 84,000. These are example document readings, not a claim that OdoTrace has loaded those dates. If both readings were kilometres for the same car, the later number is lower and needs an explanation. First verify the VIN, original certificates, units and any instrument replacement or entry error. If you compare them with an OdoTrace STK value, remember that its source file does not state a unit. The two dates alone cannot establish tampering.
If OdoTrace shows no reading
Recheck the VIN on the car, then use the ministry portal. An OdoTrace miss concerns the files it has loaded, not the entire Czech register. If the source is unavailable or its validation is stale, that evidence remains unresolved. Ask for original STK certificates and service invoices; for an import, request the earlier country's records.
