OdoTrace is a free VIN decoder and mileage-checking tool for used-car buyers in Europe. It brings together available official evidence and flags possible decreases in comparable odometer readings. Coverage varies by country, source and vehicle. It is not a complete European vehicle-history register.

A car with a US history
For a car previously used in the United States, OdoTrace can decode available VIN attributes and show available US make/model/year recall information. Selecting US context in the report can also show matching NHTSA crash-test ratings and EPA fuel-economy data. These are model or variant facts: they do not establish this VIN’s recall applicability, repair status or condition.
OdoTrace checks New York DMV inspection readings by exact VIN within the published rolling five-year window, updated weekly. This is New York-only mileage evidence, not nationwide coverage. Miles are converted to kilometres; zero readings are excluded because they may mean a missing or broken odometer. Entries may contain errors. No match means no matching NY inspections in that window. OdoTrace does not retrieve US title brands, accident or service history. Any later European readings cover only the sources and dates shown. Those external results are not included in an OdoTrace report.
Automatic result, manual check, or external service?
The optional UK plate check remains separate from VIN-matched evidence. The Danish pilot runs only after you explicitly request it; it is not an automatic background source. Some country checks require a plate, registration document or interaction on the authority's own website. An outbound link is a next step, not evidence already included in your report; the official Lithuanian and Polish lookups work this way, as the Lithuanian and Polish guides explain. Some country links go to a police stolen-vehicle list, an insurance-status check or a periodic-inspection check run by that country's authority (for example in Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Portugal). Each answers only from its own records, some need a state login or a fee, and a missing match never proves a vehicle is clear. External paid reports are separate services; their coverage and price must be checked with the provider. OdoTrace does not promise comprehensive accident, theft, finance or ownership-history coverage.
Read the source status before the verdict
- Records found: inspect their dates, units and country. A short timeline can still omit years.
- No match: no matching evidence was returned from that source. It does not prove the car has no history.
- Unavailable or skipped: the lookup did not supply evidence. Try the relevant official check and retain original documents.
Interface language does not add that country's registry coverage. Read the source methodology and licences and the mileage investigation checklist before using a result in a purchase decision.
