For a car registered in Poland, the official Historia Pojazdu service on gov.pl is the route to its inspection readings and registration history. It needs three details from the vehicle's registration documents, so ask the seller for them before the viewing.

Do this now

  1. Ask the seller for the registration number, the VIN and the date of first registration shown in the registration documents, and compare the VIN with the one on the car.
  2. Open Historia Pojazdu, enter those three details, and write down the inspection dates and odometer readings it shows.
  3. Compare whether the car is flagged as deregistered or stolen, the owner count and the inspection and insurance validity with what the seller told you.
  4. Compare the readings with service invoices and the dashboard, and mark gaps and any period the car was registered abroad.
  5. Enter the VIN in the OdoTrace vehicle check for the decode and model recall context.

A Historia Pojazdu printout is informational and its odometer data is collected from 2014; OdoTrace adds no Polish mileage history to it.

What Historia Pojazdu needs and shows

The gov.pl description of the service says it is free and run by the Polish Ministry of Digitalisation (Ministerstwo Cyfryzacji). To search you enter the vehicle's registration number, its VIN and its date of first registration, all of which appear in the registration documents.

According to that page, the report covers:

  • the validity of the compulsory technical inspection and of the third-party liability insurance (OC);
  • whether the owner is a company, an organisation or a private person, and the number of owners since the car was first registered in Poland;
  • the dates of completed technical inspections;
  • whether the vehicle has been deregistered or reported stolen;
  • technical data such as engine capacity, power and fuel type; and
  • odometer readings from technical inspections, with data collected from 2014.

Because the page says the odometer data is collected from 2014, earlier inspections may not appear. It also states that a printout of the report has an informational character and is not an official document, so keep the seller's original papers as the record.

Risks recorded abroad

A separate part of the service looks for some risks recorded outside Poland, such as whether a vehicle has been in an accident or used as a taxi. gov.pl says it draws on the United States, Canada and some European countries, for example Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Norway, where the data is available. It requires a trusted profile (profil zaufany, eGo) login and allows at most 20 vehicles to be searched per hour. Follow the service's own instructions for this step; the page says it can be used even for a vehicle that is not registered in Poland.

Reading the result

Set the dated inspection readings in order beside the seller's invoices and the dashboard value, and check that the owner count and inspection and insurance dates fit the seller's account. A lower later reading, or a long gap, needs original documents before you draw a conclusion; the mileage-history checklist explains how to handle units, entry errors and gaps.

What OdoTrace adds for Polish cars

  • VIN decode: the vehicle's make, model and other attributes where the sources support them, in the vehicle check, which also has a Polish interface.
  • Model recall context: campaigns from public registers for the model, shown with their sources. A model match does not show whether your car was affected, so ask the manufacturer.
  • An outbound link to Historia Pojazdu. You run that lookup yourself with the car's details; its result is not part of an OdoTrace report.

OdoTrace holds no Polish mileage history, and the Polish interface does not add Polish registry coverage. See the coverage table for what each source supplies.

If the car came from abroad

Historia Pojazdu counts owners from the first registration in Poland, so earlier registrations are a separate question. Use the earlier country's register: the UK, Dutch, Czech and US-import guides explain those routes. Take the printable checklist to the viewing.
